Delhi Police has registered 20 FIRs in connection with Saturday’s protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, officials said on Sunday, PTI reported.

Among the cases is an FIR registered at Kamla Market police station, in which four men have been arrested for allegedly assaulting students and manhandling women during the demonstration, officials said.

The four accused reportedly claimed links to the right-wing organisation Hindu Raksha Dal. Police are investigating the alleged assault and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The protest was organised to raise concerns over the SIR exercise and alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. The demonstration was accompanied by heightened security arrangements across the national capital, with barricades and restrictions imposed in several areas.

The registration of the FIRs comes amid growing controversy over the police response to the protest and the restrictions imposed on demonstrators. The developments have also renewed debate over the right to peaceful assembly and the need to ensure the safety of protesters.

Further details regarding the other FIRs, the specific allegations in each case and the progress of the investigations were not immediately available.
