A court in Bihar's Patna on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, in connection with the coaching institute firing case.
A total of six people have been granted bail in the case. Besides Khan Sir, the Patna Civil Court granted anticipatory bail to three staff members of his coaching institute, his counsel said. In addition, the court granted regular bail to two security guards who had been arrested in the case, according to a PTI report.
The case stems from a dispute between two prominent coaching institutes in Patna's Musallahpur Haat area. On one side was Khan Sir, director of one institute, and on the other was Roshan Anand, director of another coaching centre. The two institutes have reportedly been engaged in long-standing competition over student enrolment, examination results and credit for successful candidates.
The firing incident took place in early June after Khan Sir's coaching institute was allegedly vandalised by a group of miscreants. Earlier, on June 8, the court had reserved its order on Khan Sir's anticipatory bail plea. The verdict was initially scheduled to be delivered on July 10 but was deferred to July 13 as the district judge was on leave.
The defence maintained that Khan Sir had no direct role in the firing incident and argued that the security personnel acted in self-defence after the coaching institute came under attack. Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
