Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has moved a privilege notice before Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against three senior Nadia administration officials, alleging a breach of parliamentary protocol after she was asked to vacate a Circuit House room late at night on August 14.

The notice, filed under Rule 222 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha and dated August 16, names Nadia District Magistrate Srikant Palli, Additional District Magistrate Nirpendra Singh and Nazareth Deputy Collector Anamika Bera. Mahua Moitra has accused the officials of “serious breach of protocol” and “contemptuous conduct” and sought action against them.

The Krishnanagar MP said she had reached the Nadia Circuit House at around 6.15 pm for an overnight stay and was allotted her usual room. According to her, tea was served at 7 pm and dinner at 9.20 pm. However, at 9.47 pm, Moitra said she received a call from the Additional District Magistrate asking her to vacate the accommodation. When she sought an explanation, she was allegedly told that the instruction had come from the District Magistrate.

Additionally, she stated a WhatsApp message followed at 10.52 pm containing an order stating that the Circuit House would remain unavailable from the evening of August 14 for annual maintenance and cleaning. The order was dated August 12 and said bookings confirmed before August 13 would be exempt from the suspension. Moitra questioned why she was asked to leave nearly two days after the order was issued. She also said the administration had not informed her of the closure either when she made the reservation or when she checked in. Instead, she alleged, the room had been prepared for her and staff had provided meals.

The TMC MP said the incident was part of attempts to obstruct her parliamentary duties. She told the Speaker that she had informed him about her planned visit to her constituency on August 13, after the Monsoon Session concluded.

Mahua Moitra has sought protection from what she described as “intimidation and harassment”, urging the Speaker to ensure that she can discharge her constitutional responsibilities without obstruction. The privilege notice comes days after Moitra publicly questioned the Nadia administration over the late-night eviction and alleged that the incident raised concerns about the treatment of elected representatives.
