A woman allegedly threw an ink-like liquid at Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke while he was addressing supporters during his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday. This comes after Sonam Wangchuk who was on day 21 of his hunger strike, was “forcefully” taken to Safdarjung Hospital by the Delhi Police.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman approached Dipke during the protest, raised slogans and then splashed the ink-like substance on his face and clothes. Security personnel stationed at the site immediately intervened, detained the woman and handed her over to the police. The woman's identity and the motive behind the attack were not immediately known. Authorities have not yet released any further details.
Responding to the incident, Abhijeet Dipke remained defiant, saying, "Jai Bhim, blue is my colour." The incident occurred amid the ongoing protest following the removal of activist Sonam Wangchuk from the demonstration site. Wangchuk, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike over the alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the NEET paper leak, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on the 21st day of his fast.
His removal came less than 48 hours before the CJP's proposed march to Parliament, scheduled for the opening day of the Monsoon Session on Monday. In the aftermath of Wangchuk's hospitalisation, the CJP escalated its agitation, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Standing in solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk, Abhijeet Dipke announced that he would continue the movement by undertaking an indefinite hunger strike.
Addressing supporters after the attack, Abhijeet Dipke reiterated that the protest would continue as planned, declaring, "We will march to Parliament. No amount of intimidation will stop this movement.”
