A 63-year-old man was injured after being hit by a BEST bus while it was reversing in Mumbai’s Bhandup (West) on Wednesday morning amid continued rainfall across the city.

According to officials, the incident was reported by the BEST Control Room at around 8:30 am from Kokan Nagar in Bhandup (West). The injured man, identified as Atul Anand Padale (63), was immediately shifted to M.T. Agrawal Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual reduction in rainfall intensity over Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) over the next few days, even as isolated heavy showers and gusty winds are expected on Wednesday.

In a nowcast warning issued at 10:30 am, the IMD issued an Orange Warning for Mumbai, Thane and the Ghat areas of Pune, warning of moderate to intense spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph at isolated places over the next three hours. Citizens have been advised to take necessary precautions.

According to the IMD’s district-wise five-day forecast issued on Wednesday morning, Mumbai and Thane are likely to receive moderate rainfall on July 8, followed by light to moderate rain on July 9.

Rainfall activity is expected to weaken further, with light rain forecast between July 10 and July 11.

Palghar is likely to witness heavy rainfall at isolated places on Wednesday before conditions improve over the following days. Raigad is expected to continue receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on July 8, while Ratnagiri is likely to experience heavy rainfall at isolated places over the next two days.

Rainfall activity across most districts is expected to ease from July 10 onwards.

The weather department has forecast a generally cloudy sky with intermittent light to moderate rain in Mumbai and its suburbs throughout the day.

However, the Mumbai city recorded significant rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Wednesday.

The City received 61.13 mm of rainfall, while the Eastern Suburbs recorded 86.66 mm and the Western Suburbs received 86.90 mm.

According to the IMD’s tidal forecast, high tide is expected at 5:17 pm on Wednesday with a height of 3.77 metres, followed by another high tide at 7:00 am on Thursday measuring 3.49 metres. Low tide is expected at 12:01 am and 12:29 pm on Thursday.

Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain alert as intermittent heavy showers and strong winds may continue through the day despite an overall improving weather outlook.
