A shocking case has come to light from Mumbai’s upscale Bandra area, where a 25-year-old man allegedly entered into a romantic relationship with a woman to obtain a legal United Kingdom visa through marriage.
When the woman refused to marry him in India after realising his intentions, the accused allegedly leaked her private videos on social media and pornographic websites in an act of revenge. Bandra Police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused.
According to the police complaint, the 20-year-old complainant, a resident of Bandra, has been working in London for the past three years. She met Lavist Johnson Correia (25), a resident of Vasai, in March 2024 while in the UK.
Police said the accused allegedly developed a relationship with the woman with the intention of marrying her to secure a UK visa. After his visa expired in December 2024, he returned to India. Investigators said he then repeatedly pressured the woman to travel to India and enter into a court marriage so that he could return to the UK.
When the woman refused, suspecting that his only motive was to obtain a visa, the accused allegedly began threatening her.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly warned the woman that he would upload their private videos online if she did not agree to marry him. Distressed by the threats, the woman cut off all contact with him and even changed her UK mobile number.
Despite this, the accused allegedly uploaded her private videos to a pornographic website and shared them through Telegram links with the intention of defaming her.
The woman later informed her father in London about the alleged incident. Following this, her father and grandmother approached Bandra Police and lodged a complaint against Lavist Johnson Correia.
Based on the complaint, Bandra Police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
Mumbai Police’s Cyber Cell is working to have the objectionable links removed from Telegram and other online platforms while continuing efforts to trace and arrest the accused.
