A retired schoolteacher, his wife and their two children were found dead inside their locked home in Rangpur, Bangladesh, late Saturday night, prompting a police investigation into what officials have described as suspicious deaths.
The deceased were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 50, their daughter Agami Chakraborty Prarthi, 23, and their 12-year-old son Priyam Chakraborty. Ganapati was a retired teacher of Rangpur Zilla School.
Relatives reportedly became concerned after losing contact with the family. Pritilata's sister, Puja Chakraborty, said she had last spoken to her sister on Thursday afternoon, after which all four family members' phones were reportedly switched off.
“The main gate of the house was locked, and all the lights inside were off,” Puja said. Police later broke open the lock and entered the residence.
Bodies Found In Different Parts Of House
Investigators found the four bodies in separate locations. Ganapati's body was found on the roof, while Pritilata and Agami were discovered on the staircase. Priyam was found underneath a bed.
The family had reportedly been living in the area for around four years. Ganapati retired from teaching last year and later worked as a homoeopathic practitioner. His daughter had completed a master's degree in English, while his son was a Class 5 student.
Police Suspect Possible Strangulation
Investigators are examining whether the four were killed. Initial findings have raised suspicion of strangulation, although the exact cause of death is yet to be established through post-mortem examinations.
“We are investigating. The investigation will determine who was responsible for the killings,” said Subir Chowdhury, who is in charge of the Rangpur Metropolitan CID.
Police have not yet established a motive or identified any suspect. Authorities are examining the house and gathering evidence as part of the probe.
CID, Detective Branch Join Probe
The investigation is being conducted by local police along with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Detective Branch. Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Nazmul Kader said, “For now, we have recovered the bodies of four people. We have not yet been able to establish any details about the incident.”
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Police are awaiting the reports to determine the precise cause and timing of the deaths.
For now, the locked house, switched-off phones and bodies found in different parts of the property remain central to the investigation, as authorities work to establish what happened to the family.
