The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Nowcast Red Warning for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar, warning of intense spells of rain at isolated places over the next three hours. The warning was issued at 9:30 am IST on Saturday and will remain valid for three hours.
Apart from the immediate warning, authorities have also forecast heavy rainfall between July 4 and July 6 across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the Konkan region and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra.
According to the forecast, Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the three days. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected over the ghat regions of Pune, Satara and Nashik districts.
Officials have cautioned that the persistent rainfall may lead to disruptions in local transportation, waterlogging in low-lying areas and the possibility of minor structural damage at isolated locations.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, particularly through ghat sections and flood-prone areas, and follow updates issued by the IMD and local authorities.
In case of emergencies, citizens have been urged to contact the concerned local emergency services. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked residents to use its emergency helpline 1916 for assistance.
The IMD has advised people in the affected districts to take necessary precautions as intense rain spells are expected to continue during the warning period.
