The investigation into the murder of 21-year-old Mayank Lohar aboard a moving Churchgate–Nalasopara local train has unearthed several startling revelations.

During interrogation, the arrested accused, Roshan Suvarna, disclosed that he disposed of the murder weapon by throwing it out of the moving train between Borivali and Mira Road stations. However, the knife is yet to be recovered.

According to Government Railway Police (GRP) sources, Roshan admitted that after fatally stabbing Mayank, he remained at Borivali railway station for nearly 35 minutes before boarding another local train to Mira Road. It was during this journey that he allegedly threw the knife out of the train. Since he was under the influence of alcohol at the time, he told investigators that he could not recall the exact location where he discarded the weapon.

Following his statement, GRP teams launched a search operation along the railway tracks between Borivali and Mira Road. Despite extensive efforts, the knife has not yet been recovered.

Investigators also learned that Roshan became aware of Mayank’s death on the morning of June 24. Soon after receiving the news, he booked an Ola cab from Mira Road to Panvel at around 7 a.m. and simultaneously booked a train ticket to Mangaluru, Karnataka, intending to flee to his native village.

Before leaving home, Roshan informed his father about his travel plans. Police sources said that his father later shared this information with investigators, enabling the GRP to trace and arrest the accused before he could board the train to Karnataka.

The interrogation has further revealed that Roshan was already agitated on the day of the incident. He regularly travelled using an AC local train pass, but the AC service was running late that evening, forcing him to board the first-class coach of a regular local train.

Police said the accused was intoxicated and irritated as passengers kept the train doors shut due to heavy rain, making the coach feel congested.

During an altercation inside the compartment, Roshan was allegedly assaulted and his spectacles were broken, further escalating his anger. In a fit of rage, he allegedly stabbed Mayank Lohar four times before fleeing the scene.

The Government Railway Police are continuing their investigation while efforts to recover the murder weapon remain underway.

The knife is expected to be a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing case.
