A 41-year-old man from Ranchi has gone untraceable in flood-ravaged Nepal, prompting his family to seek help from the Centre to locate and rescue him. Ramprasad Ghosh, a resident of Hyder Ali Road in Ranchi, travelled to Kathmandu to work at a hydropower project. His family said they last spoke to him through a social media call on Tuesday.
"When we saw the news of the flash floods, we tried to contact him through various sources since Wednesday morning, but he is still untraceable," his 75-year-old father, Ranjit Kumar Ghosh, said. The family has been unable to establish contact with him since then. "We are spending sleepless nights waiting to know about his well-being," Ghosh said.
Ramprasad has been working as an administrator at the hydropower facility for around six months, his sister-in-law Ditya Ghosh said. "He had come home on leave two months ago and returned after spending 10 days," she said. According to Ditya, Ramprasad is among around 200 workers from different parts of India employed at the project. "The locations being shown in television news are the same places where he was working," she said.
Shikha Lakra, team leader at Jharkhand's state migrant control room, said the authorities had contacted the Indian Embassy with details of the missing man. "We hope to find him soon," she said.
Nepal has been battling severe flooding and landslides, with the disaster leaving at least 177 people dead and thousands missing, including hundreds of Indian nationals. The family has appealed to both the Jharkhand and Central governments to intervene and ensure Ramprasad's safe return.
