The debate surrounding Satluj, starring Diljit Dosanjh, reached Jammu on Friday as hundreds of people gathered at Gurdwara Sahib in Nanak Nagar for a free public screening of the film.

The screening was organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) following the film's removal from OTT platforms, a move that has sparked widespread discussion across Punjab and other parts of the country.

For the SGPC, the screening was intended not merely as a film exhibition but as an effort to preserve the memory of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and the issues highlighted through his story.

Satluj chronicles the life of Khalra and revisits the events surrounding his alleged custodial killing in 1995, bringing renewed attention to one of the most contentious chapters in Punjab's history.

People travelled from different parts of Jammu to attend the screening, with many describing the film as an important account of justice and human rights rather than a political statement.

The screening comes amid continuing controversy over the film's removal from streaming platforms.

While the government has maintained that Satluj presents a narrative that allegedly whitewashes terrorism, sections of the Sikh community have opposed any restrictions on the film, arguing that it focuses on the life and work of Jaswant Singh Khalra and should remain accessible to the public.

Friday's event in Jammu marks the latest in a series of public screenings organised by Sikh bodies, reflecting the growing public interest in the film despite the ongoing debate over its availability.
