Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, where the two leaders discussed various development-related issues concerning the state.
Fadnavis shared details of the meeting through a post on X, stating that he briefed the Prime Minister about several ongoing projects and campaigns in Maharashtra.
“Today in New Delhi, I met our leader and the country’s beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi and received his guidance on various issues related to Maharashtra’s development. I also informed him about several projects and initiatives being undertaken in the state. Meeting and receiving guidance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi always provides positive energy. I sincerely thank him,” Fadnavis posted on X.
The meeting comes at a time when all three key leaders of the Mahayuti alliance are camping in Delhi. A day earlier, they had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting is being seen as significant given the growing concerns among onion and sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra.
The onion crisis has intensified in the state, with farmers staging major protests, while sugarcane growers have also expressed dissatisfaction. Several sugar mills have voiced concerns over certain existing policies. At the same time, differences among the three ruling alliance parties over seat-sharing for the upcoming local body elections have also surfaced.
Meanwhile, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil has announced fresh protests, adding to the political developments in the state.
To discuss solutions to some of these issues, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Sunetra Pawar, along with several ministers, reached Delhi on Tuesday, where they held discussions with the high command on procurement prices, export bans, and other issues related to onion and sugarcane crops.
Sources said that the Centre is favourably considering Maharashtra’s demands, and an announcement on the matter is likely within the next ten days.
Against this backdrop, attention is now focused on whether Fadnavis’ meeting with Prime Minister Modi will bring relief to farmers in the state.
