After weeks of legal proceedings and sharp observations by the Calcutta High Court, Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday submitted his voice sample in connection with the alleged DJ remark case. He reached the Bidhannagar Court ahead of the scheduled time amid tight security, with a heavy deployment of police personnel and central forces around the court complex.
Banerjee had earlier appeared before the CID in response to a summons but challenged the directive requiring him to provide a voice sample before the Calcutta High Court. He argued that he had already admitted the controversial DJ remark attributed to him and questioned the need for a fresh voice sample as part of the investigation.
The High Court, however, rejected his contention.
During the hearing, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya made strong observations, asking, “When will you provide the voice sample? There has to be a limit to everything. If you do not cooperate with the investigation, I will withdraw the interim protection.” The judge further warned, “Respond to the notice and cooperate with the investigation. Otherwise, I will dismiss the petition and impose costs.”
Following the court's remarks, Banerjee's counsel informed the court that he would comply with the order and submit his voice sample on July 15. The defence also sought two safeguards: that the collected voice sample should not be used in any unrelated case, and that adequate security be provided to prevent any untoward incident during his appearance before the court.
On Wednesday morning, Banerjee left his Kalighat residence and arrived at the Bidhannagar Court before the scheduled time. In compliance with the court's direction, he submitted his voice sample to the investigating agency. Officials are expected to send the sample for forensic examination, and the report is likely to play a significant role in the ongoing investigation into the DJ remark case.
