Senior party leader and MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar resigned from her party posts, adding to the growing list of leaders stepping away from organisational responsibilities in recent weeks.

According to reports, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar submitted her resignation from all organisational positions within the Trinamool Congress, although she continues to remain a party MP. The development has triggered intense political speculation, especially as it comes amid visible churn inside the ruling party’s district and state structures.

The Barasat MP reportedly conveyed her decision directly to the party leadership. While she did not publicly launch a direct attack on the Trinamool Congress high command, her resignation is being viewed as politically significant given her long-standing role within the organisation and her influence in North 24 Parganas politics.

Resignation Comes Amid Internal Reorganisation

Sources suggest that the resignation may be linked to dissatisfaction over recent organisational restructuring and internal equations within the party. The Trinamool Congress has been undergoing multiple changes across district units following recent political setbacks and increasing pressure from opposition forces in several regions of Bengal.

Political observers note that Kakoli’s resignation carries added significance because she has been considered one of the more recognisable parliamentary faces of the Trinamool Congress. A doctor by profession and a veteran parliamentarian, she has represented Barasat multiple times in the Lok Sabha and maintained a strong organisational presence in North 24 Parganas.

Although no formal reason has been publicly detailed, reports indicate that the MP expressed unhappiness over organisational functioning and certain recent decisions regarding district-level leadership. Her move is therefore being interpreted not merely as a routine resignation, but as a reflection of deeper discomfort within sections of the party structure.

Growing Pattern of Organisational Exits

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar’s resignation is not being seen in isolation. Over the past few weeks, multiple Trinamool leaders, councillors and local functionaries have either resigned from organisational responsibilities or publicly voiced frustration over internal functioning. The developments have fueled opposition claims that dissatisfaction is steadily rising inside the ruling party ahead of crucial political contests in the state.

Political analysts believe the Trinamool Congress leadership is currently balancing two major challenges simultaneously — maintaining strict organisational discipline while also managing aspirations and grievances among senior local leaders. As the party expands and centralises its decision-making mechanisms, tensions at district levels appear to be surfacing more frequently.

Opposition Seizes Opportunity

The BJP and Left parties have already begun using the resignation to sharpen their criticism of the Trinamool Congress, alleging that the ruling party is struggling with internal dissatisfaction despite publicly projecting unity. Opposition leaders claim that repeated organisational resignations point toward deeper structural discomfort within the party’s grassroots network.

The timing of the resignation is politically crucial. Bengal is gradually entering another intense political cycle, and every organisational move within the ruling party is now being scrutinised for signs of internal stability or unrest.

For Mamata Banerjee’s party, maintaining cohesion across districts will remain critical as it prepares for upcoming electoral challenges and increasing pressure from opposition parties attempting to regain political ground in the state.

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar’s resignation may not immediately alter the Trinamool Congress’s organisational strength, but it has undeniably intensified conversations around internal dynamics, leadership management and factional discomfort within Bengal’s ruling party.
