Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee led a sit-in protest at Dharmatala's Y-Channel alleging attempts to weaken the party leading Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari to launch sharp counterattack, ridiculing both the protest and the Opposition's claims of political victimisation.

Addressing media during his Tarakeswar visit on Tuesday, Adhikari dismissed the TMC's dharna as a “carefully orchestrated political spectacle” aimed at diverting attention from the state government's failures. The BJP leader claimed that the ruling party was attempting to portray itself as a victim despite having remained in power in West Bengal for over a decade.

Taking a swipe at Mamata Banerjee's allegations that efforts were being made to split the Trinamool Congress, Adhikari remarked, “She (Mamata Banerjee) appeared increasingly concerned about dissent and dissatisfaction within her own party ranks.” He suggested that internal instability within the TMC, rather than any external conspiracy, was responsible for the growing unease in the ruling camp.

Referring to the TMC chaiperson’s protest at Y-Channel, Adhikari questioned, “Why a party that controls the state administration would need to stage a dharna against alleged political pressure.” According to him, the protest reflected the Trinamool Congress leadership's “anxiety over changing political equations in the state.”

During his remarks, Adhikari mocked the symbolism and messaging of the protest programme, describing it as “an attempt to generate political sympathy ahead of future electoral battles.” He claimed that the Opposition “was seeking to shift the political narrative away from issues affecting ordinary citizens by projecting itself as the target of a larger political conspiracy.”

Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the dharna on Tuesday, had accused political opponents of “using pressure tactics to lure elected representatives away” from the Trinamool Congress and undermine the mandate received by the party.

Adhikari rejected those allegations, asserting that “who choose to leave the TMC do so because of dissatisfaction within the organisation.” He maintained that the BJP was not responsible for the internal challenges confronting the ruling party.
