A man allegedly hurled stones at the family residence of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata in the early hours of Tuesday, damaging the first-floor windows, according to CCTV footage shared by the TMC leader on social media.

The footage purportedly shows a helmeted man arriving on a motorcycle, stopping outside the residence, picking up a large stone and throwing it at the building. He is then seen repeating the act before fleeing the spot. The incident allegedly took place adjacent to a Kolkata Police kiosk.

The authenticity of the CCTV footage could not be independently verified.

Sharing the video on X, Banerjee accused the BJP of creating an atmosphere where political violence had become routine and questioned the police's response.

"This is not merely a collapse of law and order. This is the dangerous institutionalisation of violence."

He also questioned how the alleged attacker was able to carry out the act without being stopped.
"Where was the police? Under whose instructions did this miscreant carry out such a brazen attack and walk away with complete impunity?"

Launching a sharp attack on the BJP, Banerjee alleged that criminals were operating with confidence because they believed they enjoyed political protection.

"This is the terrifying reality of Bengal today: A regime that has normalised violence, empowered hooligans and created an atmosphere where those indulging in criminal acts operate with absolute confidence because they believe the State will protect them."

The TMC MP further referred to the recently passed West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026, questioning whether it would be enforced against those allegedly backed by the BJP.

"Will the newly passed West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti Social Activities Bill, 2026 be applied to BJP-backed criminals as well?" Banerjee asked.
