An 18 year old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district after recording an emotional video message apologising to his mother. The student, identified as Sushil Dhage, had appeared for the NEET (UG) re-examination held on June 21. The re-test was conducted after the original May 3 examination was cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak.
According to reports, Sushil recorded a 33 second video on his mobile phone moments before taking the extreme step. In the video, he folded his hands, repeatedly apologised to his mother, and said he was in deep pain. He also asked her not to worry and requested her to take care of the family. After sending the video to his relatives, he allegedly jumped into a well on Wednesday.
“Mom, I am going to take my own life today. Mom, please don't worry at all. In my next life, I will be born from your womb again and won't cause you this kind of pain," he said with folded hands in a video recorded on his mobile phone.
phone.
“Just forgive me, Mom. Stay with Sumedh, Mom. Take good care of yourself and don't worry about me. I am in deep pain... I can't do anything... I don't understand anything anymore. Just forgive me, Mom," he added as he broke down in the 33 second long video.
In their complaint to the police, Sushil’s family said he had found the NEET re-examination “difficult.” Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The NEET (UG) examination is the country’s largest medical entrance test, with millions of candidates competing each year for around one lakh undergraduate medical seats. This year’s examination came under scrutiny after allegations of a paper leak led to the cancellation of the May 3 test. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) later arrested the alleged mastermind behind the leak, and a fresh examination was conducted on June 21.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the intense pressure faced by students preparing for highly competitive entrance examinations.
