Delhi Police detained six individuals during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday as a precautionary measure to prevent a possible confrontation between rival groups near the demonstration site.

According to police officials, the detentions were carried out after authorities received inputs regarding potential tensions between supporters and opponents of the movement. The six individuals were taken into preventive custody after allegedly attempting to create a disturbance in the vicinity of the protest. Officials said the situation remained under control and no untoward incidents were reported.

Amid the demonstration, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke addressed supporters, defending the role of protests and public mobilisation in democratic discourse. “People say, what does it achieve by holding movements, sit-ins, demonstrations and taking out processions? It proves that we are alive,” Dipke told the gathering.

“For the government, we may be mere insects, but we are alive and capable of fighting for our rights,” he said, drawing applause from protesters assembled at the venue.

Dipke also criticised what he described as an excessive focus on divisive political debates. “For the past 10-12 years, these people have kept us trapped in Hindu-Muslim politics. Who benefited from this? Did Hindu-Muslim politics get jobs for anyone in the country?” he asked.

The CJP founder further alleged attempts to curb the movement’s online presence. “You may be able to delete our posts, but you cannot erase us from this space,” Dipke said, reiterating the group’s demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination and recruitment irregularities.
