Fuel prices have been revised upwards for the third time in just over a week, with petrol and diesel becoming costlier across the country on Saturday amid sustained pressure from global energy markets linked to tensions in the Middle East. Petrol prices were increased by 87 paise per litre, while diesel witnessed a steeper hike of 91 paise per litre.
Following the latest revision, petrol in Delhi is now retailing at ₹99.51 per litre, inching closer to the ₹100 mark. Diesel prices in the national capital have climbed to ₹92.49 per litre. The latest increase forms part of a broader trend that began on 15 May, when state-run oil marketing companies resumed passing on the impact of elevated international energy costs to consumers in what officials described as a “calibrated manner”.
The first increase saw fuel prices jump by ₹3 per litre on 15 May, followed by another rise of nearly 90 paise on 19 May. With Saturday’s revision, petrol and diesel prices have risen by almost ₹5 per litre in total over the past 10 days.
Fuel prices have been revised upward across India’s four metropolitan cities, with Kolkata continuing to register the highest petrol rates. Following the latest hike, petrol is retailing at ₹99.51 per litre in Delhi, ₹110.64 in Kolkata, ₹108.49 in Mumbai, and ₹105.31 in Chennai, reflecting increases ranging between 82 paise and 94 paise. Diesel prices have also climbed, now standing at ₹92.49 per litre in Delhi, ₹97.02 in Kolkata, ₹95.02 in Mumbai, and ₹96.98 in Chennai, after fresh hikes of up to 95 paise per litre. Meanwhile, the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the national capital has also been revised, rising by ₹1 per kilogram to ₹81.09 per kg.
