Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to rebuild its political alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. In a social media post, Kejriwal described the reported move as an “opportunistic realignment” and claimed that efforts were being made behind the scenes to bring the former allies together.

Kejriwal questioned the political motives behind any possible partnership and accused rival parties of reshaping their narratives for electoral gains. However, he did not provide evidence to support his claims.
The ruling AAP maintained that Punjab voters should remain alert to what it called “opportunistic political realignments,” arguing that issues such as drug abuse and sacrilege had repeatedly been used as major election themes in the state.

The BJP and SAD had ended their long standing alliance in 2020 during the farmers’ agitation. Since then speculation has occasionally surfaced about a possible reunion, but neither party has officially announced any electoral understanding.

BJP leaders have repeatedly stated that the party plans to contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab on its own. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also said that the BJP aims to form its own government in the state in 2027 rather than revive its alliance with the Akali Dal.

Kejriwal’s remarks have sparked fresh political debate as parties begin positioning themselves for the next Punjab Assembly elections.
