The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results were declared on Saturday after 20 rounds of counting, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) winning three of the four central posts.

ABVP’s Yash Dabas was elected President with 24,576 votes, defeating National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who polled 22,523 votes.

Riya Chhawdi won the Secretary’s post with 21,650 votes, while Lakshya Raj Singh secured the Joint Secretary’s position with 16,615 votes.

The Vice-President’s post went to independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, a former NSUI member, who received 30,615 votes. ABVP’s Ishu Maurya finished second with 16,910 votes, while NSUI’s Vir Chatrath secured 4,313 votes.

Deepanshu Shokeen, who had campaigned independently, thanked students after the result. “Fighting independently was not easy, but you proved that the trust of students stands above student organisations,” he said in a post on X.

The election recorded a voter turnout of 40.46 per cent, the highest in three years. Voting was held across 52 polling centres, with 20 candidates contesting the four central posts.

The results came against the backdrop of heightened scrutiny over campaigning. The Delhi High Court had ordered a complete ban on victory processions following the declaration of the results, covering roads, university campuses and hostels.

The court warned that violations could lead to criminal and administrative action as well as contempt proceedings. It also criticised repeated breaches of the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations governing student elections. The directive was issued amid concerns over alleged violence, vandalism, vehicle cavalcades and other violations during the campaign period.
