The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday withdrew the interim protection earlier granted to senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jahangir Khan, rejecting his request for an extension of relief from police action.
According to police sources, Khan is currently facing seven FIRs registered at Falta police station in South 24 Parganas.
While hearing the matter, Justice Partha Sarathi Sen observed that a change in the political situation and allegations of political vendetta alone could not justify continuing the protection order. The court also refused Khan’s plea seeking an extension of the interim relief that had been granted on May 18.
During the proceedings, Additional Advocate General Rajdeep Majumdar argued that the interim protection was originally provided only to enable Khan to participate in the Falta repoll process, the results of which were declared on May 24.
