The West Bengal CID has arrested Sumit Roy, personal assistant to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee, in connection with the alleged land-grabbing case in Salboni, Jhargram.
The arrest came after the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected Roy’s anticipatory bail plea in the case. Roy had approached the apex court challenging the Calcutta High Court’s August 3 order, which had dismissed his plea for anticipatory bail.
The case relates to allegations of land grabbing in the Salboni area. Roy is among those accused in the case being investigated by the West Bengal CID.

In an earlier hearing, the Supreme Court had granted Roy interim protection from arrest and directed him to join the investigation and cooperate with the investigating agency.
The court’s latest decision clears the way for the CID to proceed with Roy’s arrest, which was subsequently carried out by the state investigating agency.
Roy’s legal challenge had centred on the Calcutta High Court’s refusal to grant him anticipatory bail. With the Supreme Court now dismissing his plea, the CID has taken him into custody as part of its investigation.
The allegations in the case remain under investigation, and Roy is yet to be proven guilty.
This is a breaking story. More details awaited.
