Amid ongoing political tensions during the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a formal complaint against a Returning Officer, alleging irregularities in the handling of postal ballots.
According to the complaint, the party has raised concerns over the “unauthorised sorting of postal ballot covers” at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra counting centre. The TMC has sought immediate intervention from election authorities, calling the reported actions a violation of established electoral procedures.
The development comes at a time when the state is witnessing heightened scrutiny over the electoral process, particularly in sensitive constituencies. Allegations of procedural lapses, including issues related to electronic voting machines and counting protocols, have intensified the political atmosphere.
The TMC’s move adds to a growing list of complaints raised during the election cycle, as parties continue to question transparency and adherence to norms. Election authorities are yet to publicly respond in detail to the specific allegation regarding postal ballot handling.
