West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is set to intensify the state government’s efforts to attract large-scale investment, with a proposed meeting with Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai and his likely participation in a dinner during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

Adhikari said he would travel to Mumbai after the Ganesh festival to meet Mukesh Ambani, following a conversation with his son Anant Ambani, who he said had expressed interest in investing in Bengal.

“Day before yesterday, I spoke to Anant Ambani over the phone. He is also interested to come. His company is interested. He asked me to come to Mumbai,” Adhikari said.

The proposed Mumbai visit comes as the state government seeks to bring more major corporate groups into Bengal and position the state as an attractive destination for industrial and business investment.

BRICS dinner in Delhi

Adhikari is also likely to attend a dinner being hosted for chief ministers during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The summit is scheduled for September 12 and 13, with India hosting leaders of the BRICS grouping.

Describing the invitation as significant, Adhikari said, “It is a big programme; all Chief Ministers have been called. It is a very proud moment for me. I will attend.”

His Delhi visit comes at a time when his government is seeking to strengthen Bengal’s economic profile and attract investments from both Indian and international companies.

Adani hospital project in New Town

Another major development on the state’s investment calendar is the proposed 2,000-bed hospital by the Adani Group in New Town.

Adhikari said he would attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony on September 24, with Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani expected to be present. The chief minister had earlier said that half of the hospital’s beds would be intended for economically weaker sections.

The project is being highlighted by the state government as part of its broader push to attract large private investments in sectors including healthcare.

DRDO project in East Midnapore

Adhikari also said the government was pursuing a defence-related project at Junput in East Midnapore.

According to the chief minister, the Defence Research and Development Organisation had earlier written to the previous state government regarding the proposed project. He said his administration had now responded. “We have responded to that letter,” Adhikari said.

The chief minister also announced that the ₹6,000-crore expansion project of Haldia Petrochemicals has been completed and is ready for inauguration.

Adhikari said he would inaugurate the facility before Durga Puja, adding another major industrial project to the state’s investment push.
