Kolkata’s Jadavpur University has tightened restrictions on campus movement, barring students and other individuals from staying or gathering on the premises after 8 pm without a legitimate reason or prior permission. Under the new directions, students attending evening courses will be allowed to remain on campus until 9.30 pm. They must carry valid university identification while on the premises.

The university has also reiterated that ID cards must be displayed for campus entry between 7 pm and 7 am. Student gatherings will not be permitted after 8 pm at locations including the university ground, canteens and the area opposite Subarna Jayanti Bhavan. The restrictions may be relaxed during university fests and other student activities. However, the university has said such events should, as far as possible, conclude by 9 pm.

Security personnel will patrol the campus after 8 pm. The university has warned that anyone obstructing, confronting or threatening security staff could face legal action. The administration has also reiterated its prohibition on narcotics and other illegal substances on campus.

The latest measures come amid heightened security concerns following recent incidents at the university, including an assault linked to a general body meeting that continued late into the evening. They also follow vandalism reported on the campus on August 19 and 20, which the report said allegedly involved right-wing supporters. The university said the measures are aimed at maintaining discipline and strengthening campus security.
