West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s helicopter made an emergency landing in Kolaghat on Tuesday, reportedly due to adverse weather conditions.
Following the landing, the Chief Minister continued his journey to Keshpur in West Midnapore by road.
The helicopter landed at the football ground of Kolaghat Balaka Mancha, near the Kolaghat Thermal Power Station.
Adhikari had boarded the helicopter from Dum Dum earlier in the day. However, amid deteriorating weather conditions, the aircraft was diverted and made an emergency landing in Kolaghat.
At around 11:21 am, Suvendu Adhikari left Kolaghat by road for West Midnapore.
The helicopter later took off from Kolaghat at around 12:41 pm, heading back towards Kolkata.
Adhikari eventually reached Keshpur to attend an event marking Khudiram Bose’s martyrdom day.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, “Due to severe weather conditions, the helicopter had to land in Kolaghat.”
Explaining his decision to continue the journey despite the disruption, he said, “As citizens of independent India, we must pay our respects to his sacrifice on the day of his martyrdom. That is why I have come.”Adhikari also apologised for arriving late at the programme.“I have arrived quite late, and I acknowledge my mistake,” he said.
After concluding the Keshpur programme, Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to travel to Bankura for an administrative meeting.
He is expected to meet officials from seven districts under the Purbanchal Development Board during the meeting.
