Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday alleged that “three agents” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are operating in Murshidabad, naming Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gyanesh Kumar, and Humayun Kabir to manipulate voters.
Addressing a public event, Banerjee said, “I have said this before—three agencies of the BJP are working here in Murshidabad. One is Gyanesh Kumar, another Adhir Chowdhury, and the third is Humayun Kabir.”
He further alleged that voter names were being removed and that efforts were being made to create unrest in the region. Referring to a recently circulated video, Banerjee stated, “The video that was made public a couple of days ago—all of you have seen it,” adding that Kabir later claimed it was “AI-generated” while addressing the press.
Banerjee also accused Kabir of acting against the interests of the Muslim community. “He has backstabbed his own people; he is putting Muslims through religious trauma,” he said. He added that a BJP leader who previously held a presidential post had resigned after a press conference, and reiterated his allegation that Kabir had betrayed “his own people.”
He further alleged that financial demands were being made “not for the people of Murshidabad, but to keep it for himself.”
Criticizing the use of religion in politics, Banerjee said, “He is politicizing the Babri Masjid.”
The TMC leader also questioned the security arrangements for BJP leaders in Murshidabad, claiming that personnel linked to Union Home Minister Amit Shah were being deployed for their protection, while similar arrangements were not extended to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or other state leaders.
“The security that works for Amit Shah also works for them, but similar arrangements were not made for West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or any of us, as a matter of fact,” he said.
“I challenge them to return Amit Shah’s security cover if they truly consider themselves friends of the people,” Banerjee added, stating that the state government would provide security if required.
