BJP MP Kangana Ranaut pulled up government officials during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, questioning delays in development work and the utilisation of public funds.
During the review meeting, Ranaut stressed that money allocated under Centre-sponsored schemes must reach the intended beneficiaries and warned against irregularities in its use. “The public money should not go into the wrong hands,” she said, calling for tighter monitoring and greater accountability.
The Mandi MP also claimed that “30 to 40 per cent” of public money ends up in the wrong hands, highlighting what she described as the need for stronger oversight of government schemes.
She expressed frustration over pending projects in her constituency and questioned officials about how she should respond when the media asks about the lack of progress. “The time for ‘addressing’ things is gone. Those are two-year-old matters. Those are one-and-a-half to two-year-old matters. Now get the job done and report to me that this is done!” she said.
Pointing to an allocation of Rs 11 crore, Kangana Ranaut said no work had been completed despite the funds being sanctioned. “Kangana allocated Rs 11 crore, yet not a single piece of work was carried out. It is so incompetent, so wretched,” said the BJP MP.
She also hit out at what she described as poor work ethic among officials, asking what she should tell the national media about the functioning of government departments in her constituency. “What am I supposed to say before the media out there? That people come here only to draw their salaries?” Ranaut said. “What am I supposed to say about the people of our state? What am I to say about their work ethic? That they are utterly lazy, utterly incompetent people occupying these chairs? Is that what I should say to the national media? About my own constituency? And about my own mountain people?”
Kangana Ranaut urged officials to ensure that Centre-sponsored schemes translate into actual work on the ground rather than remaining limited to paperwork. She also called for closer monitoring of project quality, implementation timelines and the use of government funds.
The BJP MP has previously criticised officials during DISHA meetings. At a meeting in October 2025, she had warned them against treating the review process casually and called for greater seriousness in carrying out development work.
