Two persons were killed and another sustained serious injuries after a BMW Z4 crashed into a divider on the Mumbai-Vadodara Highway near Badlapur in the early hours of Sunday.
The high-performance sports car was completely wrecked in the impact, with debris strewn across the road. Preliminary information suggests the vehicle was travelling at a speed of nearly 250 kmph when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses described the accident as extremely severe, claiming that body parts were found scattered several metres away from the crash site.
The deceased have been identified as Yogesh Dighe and Rikeba Jakap, both residents of Badlapur. They died on the spot. The third occupant, identified as Anand, suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thane.
According to police, the crash took place around 3 am while the car was heading towards Badlapur from Titwala. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit the divider and overturn.
Police said the three were returning home after attending a birthday party when the accident occurred.
The bodies have been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.
Officials from the Badlapur Police Station have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and launched an investigation. A forensic team also visited the spot and collected evidence.
Police are probing all possible angles, including whether alcohol consumption may have played a role in the crash.
