A fresh political controversy has erupted after Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut wrote to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, demanding legal action against MP Sanjay Dina Patil over his alleged threatening remarks directed at political protesters.

In his letter, Raut claimed that the recent defection of six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs has triggered widespread anger among party workers and supporters across Maharashtra, with protests being held at various places. He said citizens have a constitutional right to stage peaceful demonstrations and question their elected representatives.

Referring to an alleged statement made by Patil, Raut claimed the MP warned protesters against demonstrating against him, allegedly saying they should “take out life insurance” before doing so and that he would “send them either to the crematorium or the hospital.”

Raut further alleged that Patil claimed to have killed five people in the past. In his letter, he urged Mumbai Police to investigate the alleged statement and register a murder case if the claim was found to be true, arguing that it amounted to a self-confession.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also expressed concern over Patil’s alleged remark about using bombs against those protesting against him. He urged the Mumbai Police to immediately search the MP’s residence to verify whether any explosives were stored there and, if required, seek assistance from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

Raut further stated that if the alleged reference to bombs indicated links with any terrorist organisation, the matter should be treated as a serious national security issue. He also demanded that appropriate provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) be invoked if any evidence supporting such allegations emerged during the investigation.

In the letter, Raut said that Patil’s alleged remarks had created fear among political workers and the public.

He urged the Mumbai Police to initiate immediate legal action, warning that if any attack or murder of a political worker were to occur in the present atmosphere, responsibility would rest with Patil.

As of now, there has been no official response from Mumbai Police or MP Sanjay Patil regarding the allegations made in the letter.
