Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan on Thursday met Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee and the party's National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee at Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence in Kolkata.
The meeting assumes political significance as it comes amid reports of growing differences between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Samajwadi Party (SP), despite both being constituents of the INDIA alliance.
Just days ago, senior Samajwadi Party leader Kiranmoy Nanda, during a visit to Kolkata, publicly blamed Mamata Banerjee for the opposition alliance's electoral setback in West Bengal, fuelling speculation over the relationship between the two parties.
On Thursday afternoon, amid rain in the city, Jaya Bachchan arrived at the Kalighat residence accompanied by Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien. She was received by Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. TMC MP Mahua Moitra was also present at the meeting as well.
The leaders held a closed-door meeting, though the agenda and details of their discussions were not made public.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be added soon.
