Former Trinamool congress (TMC) MLA Saukat Molla has been booked on charges of a rape and criminal intimidation after a woman accused him and three others of sexually assaulting and blackmailing her.
"We have received the complaint, and a case has been registered. The allegations are being examined, and an investigation is underway," a senior police officer told PTI.
The case was registered at Jibantala Police Station in South 24 Parganas after the woman filed a complaint earlier this week. According to the police the allegations are being examined and an investigation is underway.
According to the report filed by news agency PTI, the woman alleged that the incidents began in March 2019 after her five year old son was allegedly taken away by anti-social elements. While trying to get her child back, she came into contact with one of the accused. She claimed she was threatened that she would not be reunited with her son unless she obeyed their demands.
"The woman claimed that her five-year-old son had been taken away by some anti-social elements, and while trying to secure his return, she came into contact with one of the accused persons," he said, referring to the complaint. The complainant has further alleged that, thereafter, she was subjected to repeated sexual assault and physical abuse by the accused.
One of them was reportedly Molla's driver, while another was the driver's brother. The fourth accused has been described by the complainant as the principal conspirator," a senior police officer stated.
According to the complaint, she was repeatedly sexually assaulted, physically abused and blackmailed using photographs and videos of the alleged assaults. She also accused Saukat Molla and his driver of sexually assaulting her.
The development comes days after Molla was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Bhangar bomb blast case, adding to his legal trouble.
