An FIR has been registered against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and organisers of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) event in Kolkata over alleged violation of a Calcutta High Court order during the student wing’s Foundation Day programme on August 28.
According to the complaint lodged by Hastings Police Sub-Inspector Apu Baidya, a case has been registered at Hastings Police Station as Case No. 112, dated August 28, 2026, under Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The complaint alleges that Banerjee, along with organisers of the West Bengal Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, entered into a “criminal conspiracy” and acted in violation of directions issued by the Calcutta High Court in WPA No. 21728 of 2026.
According to the police account, the alleged violations took place during the TMCP Foundation Day programme held on Cathedral Road from around noon onwards.
The complaint alleges that supporters were provoked during the programme, following which a section of the crowd “pushed aside the barricades” and jostled with police personnel deployed to maintain law and order.
Police further alleged that the situation turned chaotic, with the gathering obstructing vehicular movement on one flank of Cathedral Road.
The complaint also claims that the programme continued beyond the time permitted by the Calcutta High Court.
The case has been registered on the basis of the written complaint submitted by SI Apu Baidya, with police alleging violations linked to the conduct of the rally and the subsequent crowd management situation.
The FIR comes amid heightened political activity surrounding the TMCP Foundation Day programme, with the police complaint placing the focus on alleged non-compliance with court directions and the disruption caused during the event.
This is a breaking story. More details awaited.
