Road accidents continue to be a major concern across Maharashtra, with another fatal crash reported on the Samruddhi Expressway. A husband and wife from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar were killed on the spot after their SUV rammed into a trailer near Dusarbid, while two children and the driver sustained serious injuries.
According to police, the accident occurred when a speeding Toyota Fortuner travelling from Nagpur towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar lost control and crashed into the rear of a trailer moving ahead on the expressway. The impact was so severe that Dr. Syed Asif Syed Umar and his wife, Gulsitan died instantly.
The couple was travelling with family members at the time of the accident. Two children and the vehicle’s driver were seriously injured and were rushed to a hospital in Jalna for treatment. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
The latest tragedy comes amid growing concerns over the rising number of accidents on the Samruddhi Expressway, which has witnessed several fatal crashes since its inauguration.
Tempo Crashes Into Multiple Vehicles on Western Express Highway
In a separate incident, three people were seriously injured after a speeding tempo met with an accident on Mumbai’s Western Express Highway during the city’s first spell of monsoon rain.
The accident took place around 11 am near Devipada Metro Station in Borivali. The tempo, which was travelling from Andheri towards Dahisar, reportedly crossed the divider and entered the opposite carriageway before colliding with five to six vehicles.
The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The accident triggered chaos in the area and led to traffic congestion on the busy highway for some time.
Officials from Kasturba Marg Police Station rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident.
Traffic was later restored after police and civic authorities cleared the affected stretch. A case has been registered against the tempo driver, and further investigation is underway.
