A team from the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the Kolkata residence of Trinamool Congress leader and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee on Friday, though the purpose of the visit remains unclear.
According to sources, CID personnel arrived at Banerjee’s south Kolkata residence during the day. Staff members present at the house reportedly informed the officials that the TMC national general secretary was not at home at the time of their arrival.
No official communication was issued by the CID regarding the reason behind the visit. The Trinamool Congress leadership also refrained from commenting on the development, leaving room for speculation over the nature of the officials’ presence at the residence.
The incident has drawn attention in political circles, particularly because no details have emerged about whether the visit was connected to any ongoing inquiry or administrative matter. Officials associated with the investigation agency have not publicly disclosed any information.
The development comes amid increased scrutiny of high-profile political figures in the state. In recent months, visits by law enforcement agencies to the residences of prominent leaders have often sparked political debate and public interest.
As of now, neither the CID nor representatives of Abhishek Banerjee have provided further clarification, and the circumstances surrounding the visit remain uncertain.
