West Bengal is set to begin preparations for a fresh census exercise, with a high-level conference scheduled at Nabanna on Friday to streamline the process. The special administrative meeting, involving senior census officials and district-level authorities, was chaired by Chief Minister of Bengal Suvendu Adhikari. The development comes shortly after the state government intensified discussions around conducting a long-pending census operation in Bengal.

According to reports, the conference has been convened to establish coordination among various departments and officials involved in the census process. Discussions are expected to focus on data collection mechanisms, digital documentation, field-level implementation, verification procedures, and training of officials who will be engaged in the exercise.

The move follows recent indications from the state administration that Bengal is preparing to resume the census process in accordance with central government guidelines. Officials believe that proper groundwork and administrative synchronization will be crucial for carrying out such a large-scale operation smoothly across districts, municipalities, and rural areas.

Reports suggest that special emphasis may be placed on household-level data collection, identity verification, and identification of beneficiaries linked to government welfare schemes. In recent months, the administration has also reportedly initiated verification drives in several state-run schemes, adding further significance to the upcoming census exercise.

Senior officers from multiple districts attended the Nabanna conference. The meeting addressed logistical challenges, technological preparedness, manpower deployment, and methods to ensure accurate and transparent data collection throughout the state.

This is a developing story. More details will be shared shortly
